Collection: Paper Holder
A paper holder is a small fitting with one job, but the range divides on what else it does. Plain holders in stainless steel with a chrome finish start at around ₹590 and are the straightforward choice. Brass holders with chrome plating run through several design series from around ₹1,290 to ₹2,450, giving more weight at the wall and a better match to brass taps and accessories. Above these sit the holders with a shelf built in - in brass with wood and gold, brown and black, and a twin-shelf version - from around ₹2,300 to ₹4,500, including one with an integrated wireless phone charger. The shelf versions exist because the phone has become the thing people actually need somewhere to put.
How to choose a paper holder
-
Open or covered. A covered holder keeps splash and humidity off the roll, which is worth having in a small bathroom where the shower and the WC share space. An open holder is easier to reload one-handed.
-
Stainless steel or brass. Stainless steel resists rust where the room stays damp - a real consideration near the coast or through the monsoon. Brass with chrome plating is heavier, sits better with brass taps, and holds up well in a bathroom that dries out.
-
Shelf or no shelf. A shelf above the holder takes a phone, a glass or a spare roll. In a bathroom with no counter beside the WC it is the most useful upgrade on this page.
-
Check the roll fits. Larger commercial rolls do not fit every holder. If you buy bulk rolls, measure the diameter against the arm before ordering.
-
Match the finish. Chrome is the safe default. Wood and gold, and brown and black, are deliberate choices that only work if the robe hook and towel ring agree.
Placement and installation
Mount the holder about 20 to 25 cm forward of the front edge of the pan and roughly 65 to 70 cm off the floor - far enough forward that you are not reaching behind you, low enough that the roll does not sit at shoulder height. On tile, drill with a tile bit at low speed through masking tape so the bit cannot wander, and aim for the tile face rather than a grout line. A holder with a shelf, and especially one with a wireless charger, is heavier and carries additional load, so use the correct wall anchors rather than the smallest plug in the box. A charger model also needs a power point within reach, which is a decision to take before tiling rather than after.
Common questions
How high should a toilet paper holder be? Around 65 to 70 cm from the floor and 20 to 25 cm forward of the front of the pan, on the wall you naturally reach towards.
Is a covered holder better? In a bathroom where the shower and WC share a wet area, yes - it keeps the roll dry. Otherwise it is preference.
Will a brass holder tarnish? Not through the chrome plating over it, provided abrasive cleaners stay away from it. A soft damp cloth is all a chrome finish needs, with mild descaling where hard water spots it.
