Collection: Towel Rack
A towel rack is the wall fitting that carries folded bath towels clear of the floor and lets them dry between uses - a shelf with a rail beneath it, rather than a single rod. The range here runs from stainless steel 304 racks at around ₹899 up to solid brass racks at around ₹10,200, in glossy chrome and matt black. It includes folding racks with four or five adjustable hooks, fixed shelf-and-rail racks in several design series, and a four-piece accessory combo for people fitting out a bathroom in one go.
How to choose a towel rack
-
Material before anything else. Stainless steel 304 does not rust, which matters in coastal cities and in bathrooms that stay damp through the monsoon. Solid brass is heavier, feels more substantial on the wall and holds a deeper chrome plating, but its corrosion resistance depends on that plating staying unbroken.
-
Rack or rail. A rack carries several folded towels on a shelf. A towel rail, or rod, hangs one or two open towels so they dry faster. Most Indian bathrooms end up wanting one of each rather than choosing between them.
-
Hooks change how much it holds. Folding racks with adjustable hooks suit narrow bathrooms where a full shelf would block the doorway, and the hooks take robes and hand towels that a shelf cannot hold neatly.
-
Finish against your water. Chrome matches chrome taps and CP fittings. Matt black hides water spotting better, which is worth knowing if your supply is hard and chrome develops visible limescale rings within days of cleaning.
-
Budget bands. Under ₹1,000 buys a functional stainless steel rack. Around ₹1,900 to ₹2,000 buys a heavier stainless steel rack or a combo set. Above ₹4,000 you are into solid brass with concealed fixings.
Fitting and care
A loaded towel rack carries real weight, so the fixing matters more than the fitting. Drill into the tile body and use the wall plugs rather than relying on grout lines, and site the rack where a wet towel will not drip onto the doorway or an electrical point. Leave enough clearance above it for a folded towel to lift out without catching.
For care, the enemy in most Indian homes is hard water rather than wear. Wipe the rack dry after heavy use and clean with a soft cloth and mild soap. Acidic descalers and abrasive scourers strip chrome plating and dull matt black powder coating, and once plating is breached the metal underneath begins to pit.
Common questions
What is the difference between a towel rack and a towel rail? A rack has a shelf, so it stores several folded towels and doubles as a shelf for spare linen. A rail is a single horizontal rod that hangs one towel open to the air, which dries it faster. A rack stores, a rail dries.
Should I buy stainless steel or brass? Choose stainless steel 304 if your bathroom is coastal, poorly ventilated or shared by a large family, because it cannot rust even where the surface gets scratched. Choose brass where you want weight, a deeper plated finish and a match to brass taps, and where the bathroom stays reasonably dry.
Which finish is easier to live with in hard water? Matt black shows limescale far less than glossy chrome, though it marks more visibly with oils and soap. Chrome cleans back to new easily but needs wiping more often to look it.
